How it works

From enquiry to certificates

There are no published dates on this page because sessions are arranged around your team.

Tell us what you need

Which course, roughly how many people, and the codes or incidents you want it to speak to. An email to [email protected] is enough to start.

We agree a date and timings

Sessions are arranged around your roster rather than a fixed calendar, which is why no dates are published here.

We deliver it live

Facilitated via video link on Zoom, interactive throughout, with discussion of real situations rather than a recorded module.

Everyone gets a certificate

A dated certificate recording 5 CPD hours for each person who completes, issued by Healthcare Ethics Courses and emailed afterwards.

In short

What is Face-to-Face Team Training?

Four live, facilitated courses in probity, ethics, professionalism, professional boundaries and reflective practice, run for your own team as a group via video link on Zoom, with a certificate issued by Healthcare Ethics Courses for every person who completes. Each is a live, facilitated session carrying 5 CPD hours.

A session helps a team work through an incident, a concern or a complaint against what its regulator’s code expects, and shows staff what a response to a complaint, an investigation or a fitness to practise inquiry needs: insight, reflection and remediation. The Medical Council’s and NMBI’s sanctions guidance both treat insight as relevant to sanction, and CORU’s trends report records committees taking account of insight. The sessions are open to healthcare professionals whether or not they are registered, so a whole team can sit together. Content is shaped around the codes you want covered, and sessions are arranged around your roster rather than a published calendar, which is why dates and prices are quoted on enquiry rather than listed.

No course guarantees an outcome in an individual case, and the sessions are not legal advice: a member of staff facing a complaint should speak to their indemnifier, their union or professional body, or a solicitor, before putting anything in writing to the regulator. What a live session gives that a recorded module does not is discussion: staff working through real situations with a facilitator and with each other.

Key terms

Fitness to practise, insight, reflection and remediation

Four terms run through a complaint from the first letter to a fitness to practise inquiry, and the sessions are built around them.

Fitness to practise complaint and inquiry

The process that follows a complaint to an Irish healthcare regulator about a registered professional. The grounds include professional misconduct and, for doctors, nurses and midwives, pharmacists and CORU registrants, poor professional performance (MPA s.57, NMA s.55, Pharmacy Act s.35, HSCPA s.52). A Preliminary Proceedings Committee considers the complaint at the Medical Council, NMBI, the PSI and CORU; at the Dental Council the Fitness to Practise Committee decides whether there is a prima facie case (Dentists Act s.38). Either can lead to an inquiry.

Insight

Understanding what went wrong, why it happened, and the effect it had on patients, colleagues and public confidence in the profession. The Medical Council’s sanctions guidance says a doctor may show insight by giving “evidence of their understanding of the problem” (Medical Council); NMBI’s says “Mere acknowledgement of the findings does not necessarily demonstrate insight” (NMBI).

Reflection

Setting that understanding down honestly and in your own words, including what you would do differently and what you have already changed. Reflection is the written record of insight. CORU’s fitness to practise trends report says “Every complaint represents an opportunity for learning and reflection” (CORU).

Remediation

The concrete steps taken so that the same thing does not happen again, such as supervision, mentoring or changes to how you work, together with evidence that they happened. The Medical Council describes undertakings as “a mechanism for the remediation and development of a Practitioner” (Medical Council). Insight without remediation shows understanding but no change; remediation without insight shows change without an understanding of why it was needed.

Who the sessions are for

Healthcare organisations of any size

Mixed groups work well: the material covers honesty, professional boundaries, communication and record keeping, and each session can be weighted to the code of the regulator your staff answer to. Doctors, nurses and midwives, dentists and dental professionals, pharmacists and health and social care professionals can sit in the same session, and so can colleagues who are not registered with any regulator, including psychologists, whose first registers CORU expects to open in 2027.

Questions organisations ask us

Frequently asked questions

What does Face-to-Face Team Training cost for an organisation?

Face-to-Face Team Training is quoted on enquiry, because the price depends on the course, the number of people and the timings you need. Tell us what you are looking for and we will come back with a figure. For comparison, the same courses run for individuals on set dates at €600 a person.

How are the courses delivered?

Live via video link on Zoom, facilitated, and interactive throughout. They are not recorded modules: staff discuss real situations with the facilitator and with each other, which is what makes the reflection work.

How long does a session take?

Each course carries 5 CPD hours. The exact start and finish times are agreed with you, so a session can be arranged around a roster or a study day.

Do our staff get certificates?

Yes. Everyone who completes receives a dated certificate issued by Healthcare Ethics Courses, recording 5 CPD hours, emailed afterwards. A member of staff responding to a complaint can put it, with their own written reflection, into a remediation plan or a response to their regulator.

Which regulators do the courses cover?

All five of Ireland’s healthcare regulators: the Medical Council, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), the Dental Council, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) and CORU. The material covers honesty, professional boundaries, communication and record keeping, so a mixed group works well, and each session can be weighted to the code of the regulator your staff answer to. Colleagues who are not registered with any regulator can attend alongside them.

Can the content be tailored to us?

Yes. The content lists on this page are indicative. Sessions are shaped around the codes you want covered and, where you want it, around the kinds of incident your organisation has actually seen, discussed in general terms and never as a named case.

Is this only for staff facing a complaint?

No. A session can be run after an incident, a concern or a complaint, to help a team work through what happened and what changes, or before one, so that staff know what their regulator’s code expects of them. Where one member of staff faces a complaint, an investigation or a fitness to practise inquiry, the individual face-to-face courses or the online courses may suit them better.

One of our staff needs this individually. Can they book alone?

Yes. The same four courses run on set dates for individuals, live via Zoom, at €600 a course, booked and paid for by the person attending, and any of them can be taken one to one for €300 more. See the face-to-face courses page.

Can we buy the online courses for a team instead?

Yes. Blocks of seats in the online catalogue can be assigned to named people, and a discounted route exists for the members of a body that represents them. See Course Licences & Member Access. An individual can also buy 2 or more online courses, priced by the number chosen, through the Bulk Buy Offer.

Will a session change the outcome of a complaint?

No course guarantees an outcome in an individual case, and the sessions are not legal advice. A member of staff facing a complaint should speak to their indemnifier, their union or professional body, or a solicitor, before putting anything in writing to the regulator. What a session gives an organisation is a facilitated discussion of the codes its staff are held to, and a dated certificate for each person who completes it.
