How it works commercially

The two arrangements

You buy seats

Course licences

You buy a block of seats at a rate below the public price and assign them to named people as you need to. You choose which courses are opened, you see what has been completed, and you hold the record.

  • Seats bought in a block, priced against volume
  • Only the courses you select are opened
  • Twelve months from the day a seat is assigned
  • A dated certificate for every completion
  • An exportable record of who completed what

Suits organisations that employ or engage the professional: hospitals, the HSE and its services, hospital groups, GP practices, pharmacies, dental practices, nursing homes, and universities and colleges.

Your members buy

Member discount

Member access works through a member discount. You take no seats and pay nothing. Your organisation is given its own code, and your members use it to buy courses for themselves at a reduced rate. There is no seat administration and no record for you to hold.

  • No purchase and no cost to your organisation
  • A code that belongs to you, with its own rate
  • Members buy what they need, when they need it
  • Nothing to administer and no seats to allocate
  • Each member’s work stays between them and us

Suits organisations that represent or advise the professional: indemnifiers, unions and professional bodies, and law firms.

Contact for a quote. Seat rates and member rates are quoted against the number of people involved, so we do not publish them. There is no platform fee and no minimum term, and neither arrangement is a subscription: nothing recurs and nothing renews automatically. Ask us for a figure and we will send one.

Who we work with

The kinds of organisation this suits

These are examples, not a closed list. If your organisation employs, engages or represents registered healthcare professionals in Ireland and is not named here, the same two arrangements apply. Which one suits depends on whether you employ the professional or represent them, and you may hold both.

Hospitals, the HSE and its services, and hospital groups

Where a hospital or service is responding to a complaint about one professional, a concern across a ward or team, or the findings of a review, licensed seats give clinical governance, medical administration and nursing and midwifery management something specific to assign. Open disclosure of a notifiable incident has been required by law since 26 September 2024, under the Patient Safety (Notifiable Incidents and Open Disclosure) Act 2023 (section 68 apart); where disclosure is part of the concern, Duty of Candour for Healthcare Professionals can be assigned on the day. Each completion produces a dated certificate for the professional’s file and for your own record of what was put in place and when.

GP practices, pharmacies and dental practices

A single complaint about one professional can take up a small practice’s time and affect how patients see it. Licensed seats give you something certificated to assign the day a concern arrives, so the practice is not arranging remediation under pressure, and a dated record of what was done.

Nursing homes and community services

Employers raise a large share of concerns about nurses and midwives: in 2024, 49 of the complaints the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland received (45%) came from employers. Where your organisation has raised a concern, or is managing one, licensed seats let you assign work that speaks to the professional’s own code of conduct, in the areas the concern is about.

Universities and colleges

Where a student or trainee in a health or social care programme is the subject of a professional conduct concern under your own procedures, the panel looking at it may want to see that the student has engaged with the standard in question. Licensed seats give the student structured, certificated remediation on that standard, and give you a dated record of what was completed.

Indemnifiers, unions and professional bodies

You advise or represent the professional rather than employ them, so the member discount is the arrangement built for you. Your members get a route to structured remediation at a reduced rate, at no cost to you and with nothing to administer, and what they do stays between them and us.

Law firms

A client asked to show insight before a Preliminary Proceedings Committee decides, or at a fitness to practise inquiry, needs something dated, specific and relevant to the allegation, and needs it quickly. A member discount gives your clients that route at a reduced rate without your firm buying or holding anything, and without us reporting back to you what they did.

For CORU-registered professionals, CORU’s guidance for employers says that for serious matters “we would expect employers to make a complaint as a matter of course”. An employer that has made or is considering a complaint can still assign a seat; the professional is told before they begin that you will see their completions.

What a licence covers

What you get

Courses you choose

You tell us which courses your people should have access to, and only those are opened on your account. A licence does not have to cover the whole catalogue.

Named accounts

Each seat is assigned to one named person. They set their own password and work through the material privately, on any device, at their own pace.

Twelve months from assignment

A seat runs for twelve months from the day it is assigned to a person, not from the day you bought it. Courses are self-paced, so each person works to their own timetable inside those twelve months.

A dated certificate for every completion

Every completed course gives a certificate carrying the person’s name, the course title, 2 CPD hours and the date. Certificate issued by Healthcare Ethics Courses. They download it themselves, and it is also on your account.

Completion reporting

You see who has been assigned a seat, what they have completed and when. The record can be exported and filed with the governance, HR or regulatory process that asked for it.

No platform fee

No set-up fee, no annual platform charge and no minimum term. You pay for seats, and the rate depends on how many you take. Contact us for a quote.

In short

What this is

Healthcare Ethics Ireland supplies self-paced remediation courses in ethics, professionalism, professional boundaries and probity to organisations that employ, engage or represent healthcare professionals in Ireland. You buy seats and assign them, or your members buy for themselves at a reduced rate using a code that belongs to you, or both.

Organisations come to us when one of their people is facing a complaint, an investigation or a fitness to practise inquiry before the Medical Council, NMBI, the Dental Council, the PSI or CORU, or when a concern has been raised inside the organisation and they need structured, certificated remediation they can assign at once.

We are an independent provider of remediation courses for healthcare professionals in regulatory processes. We are not a regulator, a law firm or an indemnifier, and we are not affiliated with any Irish regulator.

Definitions

Key terms

The words used on this page, defined once so they mean the same thing throughout and in the contract.

Seat
One place on a course, assigned to one named person. Access runs for twelve months from the day the seat is assigned to that person, not from the day the organisation bought it.
Course licence
A block of seats bought at a rate below the public price, with the organisation choosing which courses are opened on its account. The licence itself runs twelve months from purchase; seats are assigned inside that period.
Member discount
A code issued to an organisation that lets its members or clients buy courses in their own name at a reduced rate. The organisation buys nothing, commits to nothing, and holds no record. Neither arrangement is a subscription, and an organisation may hold both.
Assignment
The act of allocating a seat to a named individual. It starts that person’s twelve months and is the point at which the completion-visibility statement is shown to them.
Redemption
When the assigned person opens the course for the first time. Before it opens they are shown a single plain sentence saying the organisation which provided the seat will see which courses they complete and when, and they accept it there.
Completion reporting
The record an administrator can see and export: who has been assigned a seat, which courses they completed, the date of each completion, and the certificate. Nothing else about an individual is provided.
Certificate of completion
Issued by Healthcare Ethics Courses on finishing a course, carrying the person’s name, the course title, 2 CPD hours and the date. It records that the course was completed and when; it does not decide anything in a complaint or an inquiry.

What is seen, and by whom

Confidentiality

A course somebody buys themselves is confidential. A course provided on an organisation’s licence is not, and the person taking it is told so before they begin.

People who come to us directly are in the middle of a complaint or an inquiry, and they rely on knowing that nobody is told they are enrolled: not their employer, not their regulator and not their indemnifier. That does not change, and nothing on this page affects it.

A licensed seat works differently, because the organisation paying for it needs to know it was used. So anyone redeeming a seat is shown a single plain sentence at the point of redemption, before the course opens, saying that the organisation which provided the seat will be able to see which courses they complete and when. They accept it there, not in a set of terms.

What an organisation sees is limited to assignment, completion and date, together with the certificate. It does not extend to how long somebody spent on a course, how many attempts they made at the assessment, what they wrote in a reflective exercise, or anything they say to us directly.

And there is an alternative. Anyone who would rather your organisation knew nothing about it can buy the course themselves at the standard price. That purchase is confidential. Nobody has to use a seat. The full position is in our Privacy Policy and our Terms and Conditions.

Questions organisations ask

Frequently asked questions

How does an organisation buy courses for its people?

There are two arrangements. Under a course licence you buy a block of seats at a rate below the public price and assign them to named people. Under a member discount you take no seats and pay nothing; your members buy at a reduced rate using a code that belongs to your organisation.

Which one suits you depends on whether you employ or engage the professionals concerned, or represent and advise them. We will say which we think fits when you get in touch. An organisation may hold both.

What does a seat include, and how long does it last?

A seat gives one named person access to the courses you have opened on your account, with a dated certificate for each one they complete. Access runs for twelve months from the day the seat is assigned to that person.

The licence itself runs for twelve months from the day you buy it, and seats are assigned inside that period. A seat assigned near the end of the licence still carries its own full twelve months, which may run past the licence.

Can somebody go back over a course, or take it again for a new certificate?

Going back over it, yes, without limit. For the whole of the twelve months the person can return to a course as many times as they like, including after they have completed it and downloaded the certificate. Revisiting costs nothing and uses nothing.

Taking it again for a newly dated certificate is a separate thing. A certificate carries the date the course was completed, and that date does not change. A certificate with a current date means a fresh completion, and that needs a new seat assigned to that person.

Can we choose which courses our people get?

Yes. You tell us which courses to open on your account and only those appear. A hospital responding to a concern about one ward and a law firm advising one client will want different courses, and a licence does not have to cover the whole catalogue.

What will we be able to see about our people?

Who has been assigned a seat, which courses they have completed, the date of each completion, and the certificate. That is the whole of it.

You do not see how long somebody spent on a course, how many attempts they made at the assessment, what they wrote in a reflective exercise, or anything they say to us directly. We hold none of that against a person’s name for you to read.

Do our people know that we can see their completions?

Yes, and they are told before they start. Anyone redeeming a seat is shown a single plain sentence at the point of redemption, saying that the organisation which provided the seat will see which courses they complete and when. They accept it there, not in a set of terms.

Anyone who would rather your organisation knew nothing can buy the course themselves at the standard price instead. That purchase is confidential, and nobody is told they are enrolled.

What is the difference between a licence and a member discount?

A licence is a purchase: you buy seats, you assign them, you hold the record. A member discount is not a purchase at all: your organisation buys nothing and commits to nothing, your members buy in their own name at the scheme rate, and there is no record for you to hold and nothing for you to administer.

Neither is a subscription. Nothing recurs, nothing renews automatically, and no further amount becomes payable unless you choose to buy again.

What does it cost?

Contact for a quote. Seat rates and member rates are quoted against the number of people involved, so we do not publish them. There is no platform fee and no minimum term. The public price is €100 (€70 with Bulk Buy 10) a course; both arrangements sit below it.

The Bulk Buy Offer — 2 or more courses, from €175 for two to €700 for ten — is for individual purchasers and does not apply to a licence or to a member discount.

Who issues the certificate, and what does it show?

Every completed course gives a certificate carrying the person’s name, the course title, 2 CPD hours and the date of completion. Certificate issued by Healthcare Ethics Courses. The person downloads it themselves, and it also appears in your completion record.

The certificate records that the course was completed and when. How the hours are entered in a professional’s own competence scheme or CPD record is a matter for that professional.

Which regulators and professions do the courses cover?

All five Irish regulators: the Medical Council, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), the Dental Council, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) and CORU for the health and social care professions.

Professions not yet regulated are covered too. Psychologists are one: CORU expects the first three psychologist registers to open in 2027. One licence can cover people from several professions.

Will this help a professional facing a complaint or a fitness to practise inquiry?

It gives them dated, independent evidence that they identified the concern and worked on it. No course, from us or anyone else, determines the outcome of a complaint, a Preliminary Proceedings Committee decision, a fitness to practise inquiry or a decision on sanction, and we do not claim it does.

The professional should speak to their indemnifier, their union or professional body, or a solicitor before they respond to the regulator. These courses are remediation, not legal advice.
