Buying several

A remediation portfolio is better with more courses

Courses are €100 each (€70 with Bulk Buy 10). If you are building a remediation plan you may need several. Bulk Buy is 2 or more courses: two courses are €175, three are €250, five are €400 (20 per cent off) and ten are €700 — ten for the price of seven, a saving of €300. The saving is applied in the basket.

The more courses you choose, the less each one costs

If you are responding to a complaint or a fitness to practise inquiry, you can start with the Core Set — the ethics and professionalism pair written for your profession, insight, reflection, remediation, ensuring no repeat, the fitness to practise process, dealing with a complaint, and rebuilding trust — and add courses for the specific concern raised.

How it works

From choosing a course to using it as evidence

Four steps, and you can complete all of them on the same day.

1Choose your courses

Open the page for your profession, add its Core Set, then use its concern selector to match what the complaint actually raises. Check out securely.

2Complete them online

Work through each course at your own pace, fully online and open at any hour. Every course includes reflective quizzes and a post-course assessment.

3Download your certificate

On completion, download the certificate straight away. It shows the course title, 2 CPD hours, your name and the date, and it is issued by Healthcare Ethics Courses.

4Use it as evidence

Take the certificates, and the reflection you have written from them, to your indemnifier, your union or professional body, or your solicitor, and include them in your response to the regulator with their advice.

Why a structured course

Why a dated, structured course matters

The Medical Council’s sanctions guidance says a doctor may present evidence “about how they have addressed issues or concerns”, and NMBI’s counts “whether the nurse or midwife has taken remedial action where appropriate” among the mitigating factors. A course completed on a named subject, with a dated certificate, is one way to show that you took the concern seriously.

A dated record

Every certificate carries the course title, the hours and the date of completion. The certificate, together with your own reflection, is what goes into a remediation plan or a written response.

Open straight away

Access opens the moment you enrol. There is nothing to schedule and nobody to wait for, which matters when you need to show that you acted promptly.

Written by a clinician

Courses are written and reviewed by a doctor with a postgraduate qualification in healthcare law and ethics, not assembled from generic compliance material.

Written to the code you are measured against

The two courses written for your profession follow your own regulator’s code, so the reflection you write answers the question the complaint actually asks.

Honest about outcomes

No course decides a complaint or an inquiry. What counts is the reflection you write and what you change, and each course is built to help you show both.

Online, on any device

Self-paced and browser-based, so a course can be completed in short sittings around clinical work.

FAQs

Questions about the online courses

The questions we are asked by people who have just received a letter about a complaint, and by people adding to a CPD record.

What are online remediation courses for healthcare professionals in Ireland?

Self-paced online courses in ethics, professionalism, professional boundaries, probity and the fitness to practise process, taken to evidence insight, reflection and remediation to your regulator, a Preliminary Proceedings Committee, a fitness to practise inquiry or an employer. People come to us because a complaint has been made, an investigation has started or an inquiry has been called, and they need to put that evidence in writing; others add the certificates to their CPD record. There are 32 courses in the catalogue, 24 on each profession’s page, €100 each (€70 with Bulk Buy 10), each carrying 2 CPD hours and a certificate on completion.

Who issues the certificate?

Healthcare Ethics Courses, the parent body of Healthcare Ethics Ireland. Each course carries 2 CPD hours and issues a dated certificate on completion, which you can download straight away and include in a remediation plan, a written response or your CPD record. More about the issuer is on the Healthcare Ethics Courses page.

Which courses should I take?

Go to the page for your profession. Each one carries 24 courses grouped by the type of concern raised, and a Core Set that applies whatever the concern: the ethics and professionalism pair written for your profession, insight, reflection, remediation, ensuring no repeat, the fitness to practise process, dealing with a complaint, and rebuilding trust. If you are not sure which heading your concern falls under, each page has a selector for that, or contact us and we will point you to the right ones.

How quickly can I start after buying?

Straight away. Access opens as soon as payment is confirmed, with no waiting period and no scheduling. If a response is due soon, you can begin a course and download a certificate on the same day.

How many CPD hours does each course carry, and how do they count?

Every course carries 2 CPD hours, recorded on the certificate. How they are entered is for your own scheme. Doctors record CPD in a professional competence scheme, with at least 50 hours in each scheme year under the Medical Council’s 2025 Rules. CORU registrants need 30 CPD credits in every 12 months, one credit for each hour of new or enhanced learning. Pharmacists record CPD in the Irish Institute of Pharmacy’s ePortfolio. Check with your own scheme how the hours are entered.

Do I have to be registered to take a course?

No. There is no registration requirement and no entry criteria. The courses are written for registered professionals, and they are equally open to students, to professionals whose registration is suspended or has lapsed, to anyone preparing to return to practice, and to professions not yet regulated in Ireland, such as psychologists, counsellors and psychotherapists.

Is there a discount for buying several courses?

Yes. One online course is €100. Two courses are €175 (you save €25), three are €250 (you save €50), five are €400 (you save €100) and ten are €700 (you save €300), so each course costs €88, €83 or €80, and from €70 a course (Bulk Buy of 10). Add courses: the saving is applied in the basket. With 10 or more online courses, a face-to-face course via Zoom is €550 instead of €600: ten online courses and a live course are €1,250. The prices are on the Bulk Buy Offer page.

Can I buy courses for a colleague or a team?

Yes. Organisations can buy seats in a block and assign them to named people, with completion reporting, or set up a member discount for the people a body represents. See Course Licences & Member Access.

Do you run live courses as well?

Yes. Four face-to-face courses run live via video link on Zoom: probity and ethics, ethics and professionalism, professional boundaries, and a reflection workshop. Each carries 5 CPD hours and costs €600, or €550 with 10 or more online courses. The same four can be run for a whole team; see Face-to-Face Team Training.

Will anyone be told that I have bought a course?

No. A course you buy yourself is confidential. We do not tell your regulator, a Preliminary Proceedings Committee, an inquiry committee, your employer, your union or your indemnifier that you are a customer. Your certificate is yours, and you decide whether to show it to anyone.

Official guidance

Read your regulator’s own code

If a complaint has been made about you, read your own regulator’s code directly as well as anything written about it. Remediation written against the named standard, rather than in general terms, answers the question the complaint actually asks.

Healthcare Ethics Ireland is an independent provider of remediation courses. We are not affiliated with the Medical Council, NMBI, the Dental Council, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland, CORU or any other Irish regulator. Certificates are issued by Healthcare Ethics Courses.
