In short

What Healthcare Ethics Courses is

Healthcare Ethics Courses is the parent body of Healthcare Ethics Ireland, and the body that issues the certificate for every course completed on this site. It is not the course provider: the courses for healthcare professionals in Ireland are offered by Healthcare Ethics Ireland. Healthcare Ethics Courses stands behind its sister sites in other countries in the same way, and issues the certificate for each. It was founded in 2025 by Dr Shehzad Iqbal.

The division is simple. Healthcare Ethics Ireland offers the courses to healthcare professionals registered with the Medical Council, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, the Dental Council, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland or CORU, and to professions not yet regulated; it hosts them, sells them and answers your questions. Healthcare Ethics Courses issues the certificate you receive at the end. Both share the same author, the same address and the same email.

It is a parent body and a certificate issuer, and nothing else. It is not affiliated with any Irish regulator, and no course from any provider determines the outcome of a complaint, a Preliminary Proceedings Committee decision, a fitness to practise inquiry or a decision on sanction.

The certificate

What the certificate records

Four things, the same on every certificate, so that your regulator, an employer or a committee can read it at a glance.

Your name

As entered at purchase. If it needs correcting, write to us before you download the certificate.

The course title

The full title as it appears on this site, so that the subject of the work is clear.

The CPD hours

Every online course carries two hours and every face-to-face course five. How they count towards your own requirement depends on your own CPD or competence scheme.

The date of completion

The date the post-course assessment was completed, or the date of a face-to-face course. A dated record is what a remediation plan, a CPD record or a written response needs.

The certificate records what you completed and when. Whether it meets a particular CPD requirement is for your own scheme, and what weight it carries in a complaint or an inquiry is for the regulator and its committees to decide. We say so on every course page rather than let you assume otherwise.

Two names, one course

Who does what

Healthcare Ethics Ireland

The Irish site. Offers the courses, hosts them, sells them, and answers questions about which course suits a situation, bulk buying, invoices and licences.

Healthcare Ethics Courses

The parent body of Healthcare Ethics Ireland, and the issuer of the certificate. It sets the form of the certificate and stands behind it if anyone needs to confirm what was completed.

Dr Shehzad Iqbal

Founder of both, and the author of every course, which he facilitates with Dr Mo Mirza: MBBS, MRCS, MRCGP, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Law and Ethics from the University of Dundee.

Plainly

What the certificate is not

Not a decision on the outcome

What a regulator’s committee considers is your insight, reflection and remediation, with the evidence for them. A certificate is one piece of that evidence, dated. It is not a promise about the result, and no provider can offer one.

Not a qualification

A certificate records that you completed a remediation course and when. It is not a qualification, and it does not change your registration.

Questions people ask about the certificate

Frequently asked questions

Who issues my certificate?

Healthcare Ethics Courses issues the certificate for every course completed on this site. Healthcare Ethics Ireland offers the courses, hosts them and provides support; the certificate itself comes from Healthcare Ethics Courses, the parent body.

What does the certificate record?

Your name, the course title, the CPD hours (2 for an online course, 5 for a face-to-face course) and the date of completion. An online certificate is issued on completion of the post-course assessment and is available to download straight away; a face-to-face certificate is emailed after the course. That is what a CPD record, a remediation plan or a written response to a complaint needs: a dated record of structured work on a named subject.

Why are there two names on this site?

Because two things are happening. Healthcare Ethics Ireland is the Irish site: it offers the courses, sells them, and answers your questions. Healthcare Ethics Courses is the parent body of that site and the body that issues the certificate. The courses are written by the same author for both.

Can my regulator, my employer or a committee confirm my certificate?

Yes. Anyone who needs to confirm what you completed and when can write to us at the address below, and we will confirm the course, the hours and the date against our records. The certificate is a record of completion; it does not claim, and we do not claim, that it determines the outcome of a complaint, a Preliminary Proceedings Committee decision or a fitness to practise inquiry.
